Funding our Future: the UU Princeton Endowment
As we live our message of hope, love, justice, and joy, we build on the legacy of generous UU Princeton congregants who came before us. Their foresight nourished the congregation we cherish today through a permanent endowment fund that has grown over time and helped maintain buildings and grounds and buffer our budget from economic uncertainties.
Under our Bylaws, our endowment is invested prudently and can help pay for programs, projects and capital improvements that would not ordinarily be funded by the annual operating budget. It serves a similar purpose to the kind of saving a family does when establishing a retirement plan or setting up a savings account. For example, within the last decade, two major building projects were funded all or in part by the endowment: the head-to-toe renovation in 2016-17 that updated and made our building more accessible, and the 2025 HVAC upgrade and parking lot repair which mitigated serious floodwater issues.
Your legacy gift to the UU Princeton endowment will add to gifts from those who have already given generously through the years. Legacy Giving Options include simple gifts such as a bequest in a will or naming UU Princeton as a beneficiary of a retirement plan or life insurance policy. Other gifts “pay you back” with income during your lifetime, such as charitable trusts and gift annuities. These require some planning ahead and, sometimes, help from a professional advisor.
To let us know about an existing or new legacy gift and to become a member of our UU Princeton Chalice Lighters’ Circle of past and present legacy givers, simply fill out our Legacy Intention Form and return it to the church office.
