(2018 NYC Pride March)

UUCP is a Welcoming Congregation. We celebrate and support all members of the LGBTQIA+ community, who embody the diverse and intersectional nature of sexual orientation and gender identity. Both within our religious home, and out in our communities, with our neighbors and coworkers and families of all stripes, we’re proud to Be on the Side of Love.

As Unitarian Universalists, we believe in working to embody our deeply held principles in the wider world; and towards that end, the Rainbow Ministry was formed.

This group and its members work in several areas, to lift up the mission of a Welcoming Congregation:

  • In Our Worship: Rainbow Ministry works with the ministers, worship associates and other UUCP staff on worship activities throughout the year. Each November, the ministry holds a Transgender Day of Remembrance Service.
  • In Our Fellowship: Ministry members organize and support events such as brunches, talks, and movies, holding space for LGBTQIA+ members within the congregation through education and outreach (and fun!). Rainbow Ministry works closely with the Welcoming Circle and the Religious Education program to ensure that all queer visitors and members, from 5 to 95, feel that UUCP is *their* home too.
  • In Our Communities: Rainbow Ministry is charged with representing and connecting UUCP to the wider LGBTQIA+ community, in Central New Jersey, the United States, and beyond. The ministry has longstanding connections with LifeTies, The Bayard Rustin Center for Social Justice, HITOPS, and other local and regional queer organizations, supporting their important work through grant money from the congregation and volunteers from our membership. Rainbow Ministry members have organized trips to Pride Marches in New York; and the UUCP banner has proudly been carried in each of the Princeton Pride Parades since their inception in 2019.

What does UUCP Rainbow Ministry need?
It needs your ideas and your energy; your warmth and fellowship and your personal expertise; but mostly it needs YOU. Exactly as you are.

We extend a hearty welcome to everyone who wishes to experience a warm and welcoming community that lives its message of hope, love, justice, and joy. We invite everyone to experience worship, lifespan religious education, social justice and outreach, and fellowship at the congregation. You’ll meet friendly people of all ages growing in spirit and blessing our communities.
