The civil rights leaders Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and Bayard Rustin were co-collaborators and mutual supporters. They worked toward common goals and made great progress though Rustin, as a gay man, faced bias and discrimination from within and beyond the movement. Their legacy leaves us with a model of diverse and selfless bridge-building that can lead all to more justice and peace.
