May 2025 – UU Conscious Consumers Monthly Challenge

The Conscious Consumer mission is to raise awareness among members of how everyday consumption habits affect the interconnected web of existence, and to encourage members, through monthly and annual challenges and calls-to-action, to adopt habits that can positively impact the following areas: climate change, conservation, human and animal welfare, and health.

Spring has sprung and everyone is antsy to get outside and enjoy the sun. The May Challenge is to visit a farm or a farmer’s market this month and walk away with at least one piece of fresh produce (bonus points if it’s something you’ve never cooked before!). Gather information about summertime hours of operation and/or any farm share/CSA services that you might consider signing up for or renewing your membership. For good measure, strike up a conversation with a farmer, a salesperson, or a stranger.

The second May Challenge is to buy something used that you would have otherwise purchased new. A perfect opportunity to do this is to visit UU Princeton’s SPRING SALE on May 2nd and 3rd! Give perfectly good items a second life and keep them out of the landfill. Tell your friends, family and neighbors about the sale too! Afterwards you can continue the challenge by checking out the Earth Ministry’s Favorite Eco Shopping Options handout (available in Robinson Lounge). Resolve to stop by at least one of the locations listed.
