Hurricane Harvey Relief Fund – Give this Sunday

The Hurricane Harvey Relief Fund

Dear friends,

As we gather for our Annual Homecoming Water Communion service this Sunday, Sept. 10, we do so knowing that so many in the greater Houston area are reeling from the devastation caused by Hurricane Harvey. Our thoughts and prayers go out to everyone who lost loved ones during the storm, as well as to everyone whose homes and lives were damaged by Harvey. So many of the stories coming out of Texas have been heartbreaking, and yet we’ve also seen that, even in the midst of great tragedy, people reach out to one another to offer and receive assistance. We’ve seen people carrying one another through dangerous waters, people with boats moving through flooded streets to bring strangers to safety, and volunteers from all over the country offer every kind of assistance possible. Sometimes the worst situations bring out the best in people. We’re seeing that again, in Texas.

And we will help, too. This Sunday, UU Princeton will dedicate its entire Collection Plate to the Unitarian Universalist Association (UUA) and Unitarian Universalist Service Committee (UUSC)’s Hurricane Harvey Recovery Fund. Half of what is raised in this fund will go to support at-risk communities damaged by Harvey served by the UUSC partners, and half will go to support UU congregations and members of those congregations most directly affected by the storm.

More information on this fund can be found at https://giving.uua.org/harvey-floods

If you can’t make it to worship this Sunday, you can give directly to the fund.

As we come together to celebrate our warm and welcoming community and the promise of an important, faithful year of shared ministry, let us give, together, as generously as we can to those harmed by Harvey. Every gift matters, and together, those gifts build on each other to create a world of greater compassion, greater care, and greater love. Let’s give generously this Sunday, and all year long, so that people living through difficult times know that they’re not alone.

See you on Sunday,
Rev. Bill
