Responsibilities of Greeters

Thank you for agreeing to serve as a greeter. Please carefully read the instructions below. If you are unable to serve on your agreed upon date, please make arrangements for your replacement.

  1. Greeters should arrive 20 to 30 minutes before the service begins. Thus, greeters arrive for the first service at 8:45 a.m. or for the second service at 10:45 a.m. on Sunday mornings. When only one service is held at 10:00, arrive at 9:30 a.m. For evening services, the same timeframe applies.
  2. Put on a "Welcome" button, available from the Welcoming Circle, as well as your nametag.
  3. Introduce yourself to the Ushers and let them know you are there and available to help with the offering.
  4. Two greeters stand at the stone wall near the front doors.

One greeter should take first time visitors to the Welcoming Circle and show them where to hang up their coats. If there is not time for a visitor to go to the Welcoming Circle before the service, ask them to spell their name and you should make a temporary nametag for the visitor (red bordered) and encourage them to return to the Welcome Circle after the service.
  5. During the service, greeters will sit with ushers in the reserved seats (first row of second section) and will help with the collection of the offering.
  6. During coffee hour, be available at or near the Welcoming Circle to talk with newcomers—and anyone else who is standing alone. Introduce yourself, discover their interests, be a good listener. Suggest congregation activities they may want to explore, and introduce them to others with common interests.

Greeting involves welcoming everyone – old friends and new visitors, children and adults. Say hello, that you are happy to see them. Let your words and body language help them feel they are wanted here.

Thank you for your help!
