Unitarian Universalism is an historic liberal religious tradition dedicated to honoring the sacred in every soul while building the beloved community on earth. In an “us vs. them” world, we affirm the unity of humanity and the interconnections of all life. Unlike many religious traditions, we have no creed, but value the wisdom inherent in all the world’s traditions. We seek to be a third way, not fundamentalism nor consumerism, but an open and meaningful spiritual community committed to making the world a better place. We welcome all who aspire to such values.

What's So Funny About Peace, Love and Understanding? |
|
February 14, 2010 at 9:15 a.m. and 11:15 a.m.
The Elvis Costello song rocks, and the question is a good one. The second of the UU Principles asks us to promote justice, equity and compassion in the world. That doesn't sound really hard, and we can nod our heads placidly as we read that one. But wait, there's more. What if we were to add "starting in our homes and congregations" to the end of each Principle? If I think about my home, especially when I was raising my sons, it comes into sharp focus that sometimes justice and compassion seem mutually exclusive. It sure is easier to just nod and smile at these Principles than to try to live them out.
