Our Purpose

Unitarian Universalism is a free and democratic religious tradition. Being religiously free means that we have no creed and you will never be asked to say, “I believe this,” in order to be a member of our community. But if noncreedal describes what we are not, then covenantal describes what we are. Covenant is an ancient, religious word for sacred promise. The religious freedom of our community is held up by the promises we make to one another, all of life, and the Mystery beyond our knowing. These are not promises of belief but of action, as we like to say, “Deeds, not creeds.” The primary covenant of our congregation, democratically chosen, is our mission covenant – our sacred promise of the purposes we seek to achieve as a religious community.

Mission Covenant

We come together in a free and open search for meaning within the mysteries of life.

We draw inspiration from the wisdom of the ages, guided by reason, intuition, and experience.

Transformed through our shared explorations, we are compelled to build a better world in harmony with all existence.

We commit to love, respect, and nurture each other in our lifelong spiritual journeys.

We pledge our hearts and hands, our minds and means to this sacred bond.
